In 1890, 13 years after the invention of telephone, Tehran had one telephone line between the city of Rey and two bus stations. This was followed, in a limited way, with some other telephone lines between governmental centers. The pubic use of the telephone started in 1921. In 1974, the cell phone started in 1994 in Tehran with 9300 subscribers. As it was tremendously welcomed, the second and third cell phone operators started work. Today it is possible to purchase a cell phone at a very low price.
